2020 Damsel Cellars Discovery Vineyard “The Furies”

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, Discovery Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills AVA

The heavy hitter in our Mythology Series, this wine is named for the female deities of vengeance that inhabited the underworld. The original avenging angels, a curse personified, the Furies ascended from Hades to pursue the wicked, the oath breakers and the disloyal. A classic ‘left bank’ Bordeaux effort shows bright ruby and garnet hues in the glass. A layered nose of black cherry, briny olive, herby sagebrush and cedar. Nicely textured on the palate with juicy red fruit, savory herb, cracked black pepper and gravelly minerality. Bold and bright acidity transforming to firm tannins and a lingering finish. The simple pairing of a full-bodied red wine like ‘The Furies’ with a fat-laden steak with hit the spot. Also, charred veggies, an aged cheddar, or any other high protein, high fat pairing will work, too. Drink now though 2033.
